Mysticism

Maya is a Hindu concept that refers the world of illusion. That which stimulates the senses is maya; it is the world that perceive all around us. Maya is considered real and unreal; real because it is felt and unreal because it is transient and illusory. According to Hinduism it is maya that ensnares consciousness and it is through the realization of the essential self that this snare is broken. It is interesting to note that the Mughal Prince Muhammad Dara Shikuh, in his Mingling of the Two Oceans, equates the Hindu maya with the Sufi Ishq, which is generally translated to English as divine love, or divine nostalgia.
